Clowning in Beirut…

…at the at the International Institute for Very Very Serious Studies…. I’m getting excited about teaching a 3-week Clown course at IIVVSS (short version!). This will be my second time teaching at the Institute in Beirut, Lebanon. Funded by Drosos Foundation and the inspiration of clown, director and teacher, Sabine Choucair, the Institute offers a complete theatrical training year, at no cost, for Lebanese students.

I’ll be introducing some new elements including our Qwik-Qwik-Slow methodology (that’s right, a little bit like the dance two step) where we work quickly and in a very down and possibly dirty (=messy) way for a few days then get right out onto the streets to try out what we’ve been researching. Then we take a bit of time to reflect on what happened, how we felt, what we observed and what kinds of responses we got from audiences.

Below are pictures of last year’s fabulous class during Clown and Bouffon classes and - looking as stupid and in-the-shit as usual - and parodying some of their favourite oppressors!
